Preston Firsts were ultimately a victim of the wet weather on Saturday having had Reed CC well and truly on the rack having bowled them out for 156. Preston’s Ed Wharton claiming another season 5 wicket haul (5/29). But the rain become too much and the game in the end was regretfully abandoned with both sides walking away with 10 points.
Preston 2’s however were much more fortunate, claiming a decisive win against Ampthill and really helping Preston’s hunt for promotion. Playing away, it was a must win game against bottom of the league Ampthill and on winning the toss, Preston decided to bowl and soon had Ampthill in bother with wickets falling regularly. Ampthill scraped to 106 all out with Ashley Catlin the pick of the Preston attack with another meagre 5 wicket spell (5.5-2-5-5). Rain came but held off long enough for Preston to chase a revised total of 99 off 41 overs. They achieved this for the loss of 5 wickets to claim a 5 wicket win and take another 30 points as they go into their final weekend.
Preston 3’s also had an excellent six wicket win against Southgate Compton. Preston bowled first and dismissed Compton for 126 in 29 overs with Bhanvin Patel claiming 4/26. Again the rain played its part but not enough to prevent Preston getting over the line chasing a revised target of 97 off 40 – which they did for the loss of 4 wickets.
Preston 4s were also off for the rain.
One more weekend….
On Sunday the club held its much looked forward to 6 a side day and a fantastic day was enjoyed by many. The club fielded four teams and two sponsor teams from close friends at Future Automation and Anglian Country Inns. The weather behaved itself and some excellent cricket was played. It was a great occasion for the club to get together – young and old – and from across all the club’s teams and enjoy not only a brilliant day but a highly enjoyable season too.
