Weekend Roundup 17/18 June
Preston 1’s were narrow runners up in a nail-biting game v St Albans who eventually won in the dying moments of the game by 40 runs. The visitors elected to bat on the toss and openers Hounslow (74) and Regan (53) set up a solid base but it was Preston stalwart Peter Murrell who’s 5-87 from 19 pulled things back with Aussie Dan Scholz in support with 3-41. St Albans posted 248 all out in 60 overs. In reply, despite a good start from Wharton (51) and Stevens (32) the rest of the Preston side failed to get going and build on good starts. Some tight bowling and fielding from St Albans meant Preston had to dig deep and grind it out but the final wicket fell in the 55th over – 208 all out.
Preston 2’s would have been forgiven for feeling they were playing in the Championship too this week. Preston felt they were a few runs short but posted a respectable total of 178/9 v North Mymms. Blair (32) and Rajani (31) being the main stroke makers. However, Mymm’s opener Jaypal Vala, clearly playing way below his level, smashed 112 in 80 balls to enable Mymms to win by 9 wickets. A superb innings no question but it arguably prevented what probably would have been a decent, well-matched, competitive game of cricket.
Preston 3’s came unstuck against OA’s in Div 8B. Preston could only muster 85 after winning the toss and OA’s reached it for the loss of only two wickets.
Sunday 1’s beat Harold CC in the Beds League winning by 71 runs. Preston’s Faleel claiming a half century and that man Murrell, this time with bat, scoring 62. Harold were all out for 112.
The juniors have also been in action across all the junior teams – U9, U10 and U13 – with excellent matches against Letchworth CC, Ickleford CC and Knebworth CC with superb cricket being shown by both teams. All teams have another action packed week ahead.
