Weekend Roundup 10/11 June
Preston 1s suffered a defeat on their visit to Flitwick in the Hertfordshire Championship. Flitwick won the toss and elected to bat in the scorching conditions. Preston’s opening bowlers, Ed Wharton and Casey Walker, got off to an excellent start by dismissing both Flitwick openers without scoring, leaving them at 0/2. However, this brought Bedfordshire captain George Thurstance and overseas player Morne Venter to the crease. Taking advantage of the batsmen-friendly conditions, they went on to achieve remarkable individual centuries and forged a 300-run partnership. Thurstance scored 172, while Venter made 124. Flitwick ended their innings at 329/4 from 60 overs.
In response, Preston began their innings aggressively with Ed Wharton smashing a quick-fire 64. At 100 runs in just 14 overs, Preston seemed to be in the game. However, a combination of poor shot selection and good bowling led to regular wickets falling. Eventually, Preston was bowled out for 143, falling short of the target.
Preston’s 2nd team faced a challenging match against Bentley Heath in Division 5A. Preston won the toss but found themselves in trouble early on, losing wickets at regular intervals. Michael Hubbard of Bentley Heath was particularly impressive, claiming 5/32 with the ball. Only Ashley Catlin’s gritty half-century (50) and a contribution of 35 from Fleckney helped Preston salvage some respectability as they were bowled out for 169 in the 49th over. In the chase, Preston’s Gallimore created tension by taking 4/19, and Bentley Heath’s batsmen struggled as usual. However, the cool heads of the Hubbard brothers, Michael (42) and O (45), guided Bentley Heath to a six-wicket victory, reaching 170/6 in 47 overs.

Preston’s 3rd team suffered a 57-run loss against Boxmoor, while the 4th team faced a similar fate, losing to Ickleford 3rd team by 104 runs.
