Weekend Round-Up June 22/23
Preston First X1 lost against a strong Flitwick side in the Championship as the Otters won by 6 wickets. Preston were asked to bat first and constructed a decent innings with George Biggs (50) and Justin Powick (56) making solid starts but the inning closed on 221 all out in the 56th over. It was however the innings once again of George Thurstance for Flitwick who set up the win, making a classy 105 before being caught off the bowling of Powick. Flitwick reached 223/4 in the 54th over.
Preston Second X1 came unstuck against Harpenden who won by 4 wickets in Div 4B and claimed the 30 points. Preston could only get to 146 all out in the 36th over. Harpenden’s youthful Charlie Twelfttree bowled well to claim 6/22. Harpenden then batted doggedly against some tight bowling but punished the bad balls and reached 149 for 6 in the 38th over. A disappointing result as Preston should have done better.
Preston Third X1 lost against Boxmoor who won by 55 runs in Div 8 West. Preston fielded first and saw Boxmoor build an innings of 217/7 off their 40 overs with most of the Boxmoor top order making runs. In reply, Preston made it 162/8 off their 40, falling short.
And Preston Fourth X1 also fell short against Knebworth. Taking first knock, Preston were all out for 96 and in reply Knebworth made 99/6 in the 21st over.
On Sunday, Beds League commitments resumed with Preston winning comprehensively against visiting Harrold CC by 143 runs. Skipper Ed Wharton making a quickfire 55 and supported by Jacob Williamson (56) to take the Preston total to 267/9 off their 40 overs. In reply Harrold fell for 124 with both Gallimore and Arundeep Natt taking 4 wickets each.
Some excellent junior games also this week against Hitchin, Ickleford and Balcock across the age groups and Preston Junior Girls team having a great match against Letchworth CC.
