Weekend Round-Up July 20/21
Preston Firsts lost against Broxbourne by 7 wickets in the Championship. Winning the toss Preston batted first and made a decent start with Wharton making a solid 53 supported by Faleel (26). Wickets fell all too regularly from there however with the middle order falling away. Preston were all out for 166. Broxbourne reached 167 for the loss of only 3 wickets in the 46th over with opening pair Eales (56) and Logan (47) creating the base for the win with Conor Ridley 40 not out taking the win to Broxbourne.
And they did the double with Broxbourne also beating Preston Seconds by 6 wickets. Preston were under par with the bat as Broxborune bowled and fielded well and made scoring tough. Preston’s Lachie Turner chalked up a gritty 51 at No 3 and Skipper Fleckney making a determined 40 not out but Preston could only get to 148/5. Preston’s usually reliant bowling department failed to get on top of the Broxbourne innings which reached 149/5 in only 27 overs.
Preston Thirds lost by 3 wickets to Redbourne in Division 8 West. Preston’s Skirrow made a good start (29) and young Will McIntosh made a very promising 21 before being run out but Preston were 141 all out in the 40th over. Redbourne reached 142/7 in the 40th over with Tom Murrell taking 4/25 in a tidy spell but it wasn’t enough to prevent Redbourne taking the win.
Preston Fourths also came off second this week against Letchworth. Preston could only restrict Letchworth to 170/6 and the Preston innings fell for 113 all out.
Sunday saw Preston lose to Harrold CC by 8 wickets in the Beds League. But the club had an enjoyable development game versus friends FM Arthurs which saw several younger members of the club have their first adult match in this well-managed friendly. Congratulations to all the young players who bowled, fielding and batted with great promise.
And a busy week across the junior club which did see more success with wins against Weston in the U12’s, against Letchworth and Hitchin in the U13’s and wins against Pirton in the U10’s and U12’s too. That’s more like it.
With better availability, the club is looking to have a better run into the final weeks of the season.
