Strong finish from Preston Under 13s

Preston’s under 13 team finished the season on a high with consecutive wins against Datchworth (by 12 runs) and Letchworth (conceded 30 minutes before start time), putting Preston in second place in the U13b league. The game against Datchworth was the high point of the season and was a fine response to a heavy defeat against a strong Stevenage side the previous week (Stevenage 114, Preston 38 all out). With Wiggy and Biggsy demonstrating the merits of the forward defensive and quick running between the wickets at Sunday morning coaching, the lads put this into practice at Datchworth by racing to 123-4 after 20 overs with Archie Davies (25*), Harry Hoyle (25*) and Bradley Moretti (25*) all preserving their wickets before retiring on the maximum score per batsman. They all punished the bad ball well, with Bradley hitting the team’s first six of the year before whacking two more over the mid wicket boundary (Wiggy coached this one). The Preston bowlers (Ollie Bateson and Taylor Moretti, Archie and Harry) kept things tight supported by fine ground fielding and a wicket keeping masterclass behind the stumps by Felix Sherno. With Datchworth needing 16 from the final three overs, Finn Sherno claimed the big hitting Jed LBW before Sid Davies and Ronan Halpenny bowled out the final two overs for a miserly 4 runs leaving Datchworth on 111-7.

Overall a good season with a great bunch of lads (and Lizzie) who have played the game with great spirit and support for each other, well led by captain Chris Willis.
Good luck to those who are now starting to feature in the Preston senior sides.
