Double header victory over Finchley: 1sts top CV Div 4

Preston’s Sunday XIs scored a double header victory over Finchley in the Chess Valley League. Having compiled a healthy 178 against some pacy bowling, the firsts blew away the opposition for just 63, Ed Wharton taking 4 for 16. They now comfortable top Div 4. Meanwhile the seconds, languishing at the bottom of Div 7, secured a much needed win at home. Batting first, the twos made 233 for 5 in their 45 overs, skipper Matt Burleigh making 52 and Tom Carr an excellent 89. Finchley seconds began well in reply, but Preston’s slow bowlers captured wickets regularly and their innings ran out of steam at 168 for 9. Glen Thompson took 3 for 18 and David Fleckney 3 for 21.
