The Cricketer Magazine National Village Cup Preston v St Margaretsbury Sunday 19th May
—————————————————————————-

Preston travelled to St Margaretsbury on Sunday for their second round match in the National Village Cup, and emerged victorious after a tenacious and determined performance.

After a good opening partnership from Pete Murrell and Casey Walker, Preston stuttered twice, losing 3 wickets when the score was 48 and another 3 when they’d reached 88. Ben Hill then led Preston’s recovery with a fine 52 not out, supported by Matt Burleigh. Preston finished at 160 for 7 from 40 overs, unsure whether they had a competitive total.

Led by skipper Max Anderson (1 for 7 from 6 overs), Preston’s bowlers then rose to the occasion, putting the St Margaretsbury batsmen under pressure with regular wickets and giving few scoring opportunities. After 7 overs St Margs were 6 for 2 and although they recovered to some extent, Preston’s total was not seriously threatened. Mark Waters finished with 4 for 35 as St Margs were bowled out for 109.

Preston will host Langleybury in the third round on Sunday June 2nd.
