Preston 2nd XI’s Pete Murrell achieved the rare feat of scoring a century and taking 5 wickets in the same match as his side defeated Old Cholmelians in their first game of the season in the Saracens Herts League Division 5. Opening the batting, Murrell made 106 in 150 balls before his side declared at 223 for 8 after 50 overs, Richard Gatehouse also making a quickfire 37 including two huge trademark sixes. Old Cholmelians made a good start to their innings, at one stage reaching 123 for 2, before Murrell’s offspin began picking up crucial wickets. He finished with 5-37 from 14 overs, his fifth wicket celebrated with great glee, as Old Cholmelians folded to 164 all out. A fine night was then enjoyed by all……
