Weekend Round-Up July 13/14
After last weeks rain, the club suffered heavy losses this weekend…
But it was great to meet overseas Jack Bermingham’s Mum Kate and little Brother Tom who are over in the UK for a few weeks. Tom donned the whites and biffed a 50 last Sunday. A future overseas player for the club hopefully…
But, …. Preston First X1 came off second against Hemel Hempstead CC in the Championship. Not a great week for club availability generally impacted Preston’s sides. The Preston First X1 went down by 138 runs. Hemel’s opener Ilangaratne made a decent ton (117) supported by Pike who was 51 not out. Hemel reached 236/6 in 60 overs. Preston’s chase never really gained any momentum and faltered to 98 all out in the 46th over.
Preston Second X1 also slipped up against an enthusiastic Flamstead CC. Preston reduced the often spirited batting of Flamstead to 161 all out. In reply, Preston fell for 117 as no-one in the Preston line-up capitalised. Flamstead bowled well and only Chris Cole (17) made any start. A disappointing result which sets the Preston two’s back a little bit after a very promising start to the season.
Preston Third X1 had the most promising game, nearly beating the very strong Flamstead side in Div 8 West. Preston won the toss and elected to bowl and did well to reduce them to 166/7 of their 40 overs. In reply, John Garnham top scored with 36 for Preston and were in with a shout until some fortuitous fielding tipped the scales and saw Markyate secure a squeaky 13 run victory. A very promising performance for the Preston side, again affected by availability, with some positive individual performances.
Preston Fourth X1 were regretfully beaten comprehensively by Kimpton CC who got over the line by 9 wickets. Preston were 48 all out in the 24th over. Kimpton reached the total for the loss of only one wicket reaching 49/1 in the 11th over.
On Sunday, Preston secured a decent win in the Beds League beating Blunham CC by 3 wickets. Preston won the toss and elected to field and Blunham reached 189/8 in 40 overs and saw Preston Gallimore take 3/12 off 8 quality overs. In reply, Preston reached 190/7 in the 28th over. Runs from Murrell (34), Wharton (40), Mercer (26) and Rajani (32).
