Weekend Round-Up May 11/12
Preston 1s lost out by 82 runs in the Championship to Hemel Hempstead CC. Hemel’s Penny (58), Ilangaratne (75), Ganley (82) and Pike (67) all made decent runs to help Hemel post 303/3 off their 50 overs. In reply, Wharton led the charge making 60 before he fell. Jack Stevens fought back (30) as did Murell (38) and Bermingham (27) but the Preston innings closed at 221 all out in the 42 over with Hemel’s Hoskins taking 4/66 off his 10.
Preston 2s secured a win against Flamstead in Div 4B winning by 14 runs. The returning Dan Plumb made a patient 45 supported by Ranjani (36) to bolster the Preston innings who fell for 168 all out; slightly below par. However, continuing from last season, some tight bowling stopped Flamstead getting the upper hand. Gallimore 3/37, Fleckney (3/18) and Catlin (3/24) caused the most damage.
Preston 3’s came unstuck against Markyate. Preston only made 79 all out which Flamstead did for the loss of 5 wickets in the 22nd over.
And Preston 4’s lost against nearby Kimpton who won by 32 runs. Preston took the field and Kimpton made 141/7 off their 40 overs. Preston could only muster 109 all out in the 39th over.
On Sunday 12th Preston beat Datchworth CC at home in front of an excited crowd by 4 wickets in the second round of the Voneus National Village Cup. Datchworth CC won the toss and took the fist knock but were all out for 143 in the 32nd over. Peter Murrell taking home 4/20. In reply, Preston Powick (24), George (34) were the main playmakers to create a solid base for Morecroft (26) to see the innings home. And we go on to the next round….
In the junior teams there have been lots of games taking place with excellent, well supported games against Datchworth in the U11’s, Ickleford CC in the U10’s, Hitchin CC and Baldock CC.
A busy start to the season and lots to look forward to if only the weather gave us a chance!
