Weekend Roundup 29/30th July
Another mixed bag this weekend regretfully not helped by weak availability and the weather experienced during the week.
Preston First X1 suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of a strong, league leading Shenley in the Champ. The visitors won the toss and elected to bowl first proving to be a strong move. Preston were very soon in all sorts of beef and ended being skittled for a mere 51 all out. Shenley’s Shafiq claiming 7/18. Shenley got over the line with the loss of just one wicket.
Preston’s Second X1 had better luck recording an emphatic win over Frogmore in Div 5. On a wicket and outfield that had clearly suffered rain over the last few days, Preston posted a respectable 208/6 having been put in by the hosts. Gooden 34, Ash Catlin 26, Battersby 31 and skipper Fleckney giving some final over pump for 30. Frogmore’s extras totaled 45 which also helped Preston’s cause. It was then the turn of Preston’s bowlers and finally stalwart Waters turned up to the party taking 5/27 off 10 in a decent spell. Frogmore were dismissed for 72 giving Preston a 136 run victory.
Preston Third X1 came second in their match against Bamville CC. Preston won the toss and bowled but Bamville posted a healthy 245 off 39 overs. In reply Preston could only muster 121 with Arif top scoring with 29.
And the Fourths also had better days when they came second to a strong Hertford X1. Preston won the toss and took the field but struggled to contain Hertford who posted a big 275/7. All the Preston bowlers suffered and Hertford’s Abell (78) and Rideout (68) led the charge. In reply Preston were never really in contention with only Tennant (22) and Joiner (33) making any sort of dent. Preston fell a far short 107.
We had two Sunday games arranged – the Firsts v Luton Town & Indians and the Sunday 2’s v Henlow Blues but both were finally abandoned due to the weather. Yup, even Henlow Blues.
