Weekend RoundUp – 18/19 July

Preston First XI v Redbourn CC
Preston First XI were narrowly beaten by 3 wickets against Redbourn CC. Preston won the toss and elected to bat, posting a competitive 266/8 from their 60 overs. Jacob Williamson led the innings superbly with 77 from 80 balls, while James Doherty added 56 and Anthony Ender made 52. Redbourn’s attack was led by W. Smith, who took 4/71, while C. Yorath finished with 2/30. In reply, Redbourn reached 269/7 in 54.3 overs. C. Yorath made 72, H. Cobb scored 69 and T. Edrich added 40. Edward Wharton led Preston’s bowling effort with 3/85, while Luke Marsden took 2/63, but Redbourn completed a close chase with 3 wickets remaining.
Preston Second XI v North Enfield CC
Preston Second XI were beaten by 6 wickets against North Enfield CC. Preston batted first after North Enfield won the toss and elected to field, finishing on 156/9 from their 50 overs. On a tricky surface, David Fleckney anchored the innings with an unbeaten 38, while Luke Ponder struck an exciting 30 from 24 balls. T. Coughlan led North Enfield’s bowling with 4/35, while K. Jones took 2/20, and S. Gandy finished with 2/50. In reply, North Enfield reached 160/4 in 34 overs. Initially, Preston responded brilliantly with the ball, getting both North Enfield openers for ducks. However, T. Coughlan completed an excellent all-round performance with an unbeaten 64, supported by J. Scott’s 44. For Preston, Joey Kelsall took 2/44, and Bhavin Patel bowled impressively for 2/18, but North Enfield completed the chase with 6 wickets remaining.
Preston Third XI v West Herts CC
Preston Third XI were beaten by 8 wickets against West Herts CC. Preston were bowled out for 78 in 27 overs after West Herts won the toss and elected to field, with a revised target of 79 set from 40 overs. Amit Rajani top scored with 29, while Oliver Clark added 15, but Preston struggled to build partnerships. D. Bhanushali was outstanding for West Herts, taking 4/6 from 8 overs, while K. Thangiah finished with 3/19. In reply, West Herts reached 79/2 in 12 overs. H. Singh Hender guided the chase with an unbeaten 34, while Iain Purton and Jaydev Jadav took one wicket each for Preston.
Preston Fourth XI v Hatfield and Crusaders CC
Preston Fourth XI secured a dominant 9-wicket win against Hatfield and Crusaders CC, ending the club’s losing streak. Chasing a target of 148, Preston reached 150/1 in just 29.4 overs. Craig Tennant led the chase superbly with an unbeaten 79, while Harry Fleckney continued his strong form with an unbeaten 48. Their partnership guided Preston comfortably over the line with 9 wickets remaining. Earlier, Preston had restricted Hatfield and Crusaders to 147/8 from their 40 overs, setting up a dominant and much-needed victory. The fours gave Preston Cricket Club something to cheer about. Hopefully more wins will follow across the club as the season progresses!
Preston Sunday First XI v Flitwick CC
Preston Sunday First XI were beaten by 18 runs against Flitwick CC. Chasing a target of 252, Preston reached 233/7 from their 40 overs. Jacob Williamson continued his excellent weekend with 74, while James Doherty made a classy 60 runs and Peter Williamson added 24. Their efforts kept Preston in contention, but C. Doughty’s 4/62 helped Flitwick defend their total. Earlier, Flitwick had posted 251/4 from their 40 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat. A. Dahiya led the innings with an unbeaten 107, supported by S. Rashid’s 72. Dillon Beattie was the pick of the Preston bowlers with 2/31, while Oliver Clark and James Doherty took one wicket each.
Preston Women’s Softball v Hertford CC
Preston Women’s Softball secured an excellent 6-run victory against Hertford CC in a last over thriller. Preston scored 112/1 from their 16 overs, producing a net score of 307. H. Kearney led the Preston batting with an unbeaten 18, while C. Best made 15, S. Featherby scored 14, and C. Madders finished unbeaten on 13. Hertford then scored 116/3 from their 16 overs, but the loss of three wickets reduced their net score to 301. H. Kearney completed an excellent all-round performance with 2/14, while A. Crossley took 1/8. Preston’s disciplined batting and stronger wicket tally ultimately secured a valuable victory. The Preston Women’s cohort continues to grow; it was fantastic to watch, and thank you to Hertford CC for a nail-biting game.
