Garnham’s 3rd XI Diary 30th Aug

Preston 3’s entertained lowly Hertingfordbury 2’s at Hitchin Boys School. Currently sitting 10th by 1 point, Preston knew that victories in their remaining 2 games would guarantee them a place in the higher league come the end of season restructuring.

As usual, groundsman Pete Bobbins was hard at work trying to locate the square through grass that was nearing the crossbar on the recently erected rugby posts!

Again, skipper Maxwell-Spouse proved to be a miserable tosser and Preston were put in to bat on a flat but damp wicket. Run scoring proved difficult early on against some tight bowling, although not losing wickets, Preston reached the 20 overs mark at 40 for 0.

Tom Austin-Allegro was the first wicket to fall and he was soon followed by fellow opener, Ian Sproughton. This brought the more aggressive pairing of Cabarge and Churn together who soon managed to up the run rate. With the score on 92, Churn attempted one tap dance down the track too many and was smartly stumped.

Cabarge was joined by Greek millionaire porn star, Paul Cantstopthejiggetyboos. Unfortunately, almost immediately, Canstopthejiggetyboos attempted a rather naughty single which left Cabarge nowhere to go except back to the pavilion, well and truly buggered for 31.

From here on in, the Preston innings collapsed from 121 for 4 to 134 all out.

After a dismal batting display, Preston had it all to do with the ball and 2 quick wickets raised hopes of victory.
However, despite Stan Ogden throwing everything at the Hertingfordbury batsmen, Preston were unable to make any real inroads and victory for the visitors was all too easy as they raced to 139 for 3.

This was a hugely disappointing performance and result and now leaves the 3’s in 12th place hoping that results on the final day go their way to obtain a top 10 finish.
